Livio Fantini's unusual starting point is the symbiosis of the artist with the material his works are made of. It's a physical rather than conceptual approach; sculpture doesn't proceed out of a project but raises from the discovery of what substance conceals and tries to communicate. The author senses the expressive potential hidden in the raw material and undergoes the creative process that in stages will move energy onwards to spatial form. It's as if Fantini could feel the vibrations released by the material and set them free; waves that everybody can get by fluttering loosely his hands on the smooth curves of this artist's works.
Born in 1946 in Manzinello, near Udine, Livio Fantini has always maintained a strict connection with the territory where he still lives and works, in spite of the international standing that his production has achieved nowedays. His long business experience certainly helped him disclosing latest secrects in wood manufacturing and granting him unexpected practical sense; nevertheless, the need to get in touch with the material and the tremendous appeal which forces him to a continuous search for the essence of matter, still remain unchanged. His love for nature and sport and his attitude to mark every experience by intensity, deeply affect the great deal of emotions he is able to convey.
